Pilates for Performers

At Wendy Whatling School of Dance, Brighton.

Specialised Pilates workshop for dancers, actors, singers, musicians and performance artists - in fact for anyone who sets foot on any type of stage! This workshop will consist of a classic Body Control Pilates class but with emphasis on the unique needs of the performer. Specific exercises to assist performers in the management and prevention of injuries, posture work, joint flexibility, recovery from injury, strengthening of core muscles, breathing and relaxation techniques. All participants will be given their own individual Pilates programme to take home for example a series of stretches to do just before going on stage, a full body warm-up for rehearsals, breathing exercises for pre-show nerves, a wind-down routine for aftershow. Suitable for all levels of Pilates experience - complete beginners to advanced.

Fran has been teaching Pilates for 20 years while simultaneously running her art practice as live artist Miss High Leg Kick (www.misshighlegkick.com). She understands the demands that performance imposes on the body and the unique needs of people who take to the stage for a living. Building on her experience as a touring artist and choreographer she has put together a programme to answer those needs, with exercises to protect performers from the stresses and strains of live work and allow them to reach their potential through all stages of their careers.
